Beauty products can mean a lot of waste, from packaging to single use items, including makeup wipes. These simply get tossed right in the wash and can be reused over and over.
Reusable fabric wipes are something that you can make easily at home if you have basic sewing skills.
If you aren’t comfortable using a sewing machine, there are reusable wipes that you can purchase instead.
There are lots of great reasons to go reusable! Not only is it better for the environment, but you can choose healthy, sustainable fabrics, and also control what you use on the wipes.
How to Make Your Own DIY Makeup Wipes
Start by cutting fabric into approximately 4″ squares (or whatever size you prefer).
Choose which fabric you want for your face – terry cloth, towel material, microfiber, etc. You can use a different fabric for the other side — I like to pick something cute or decorative.
The great thing about these wipes is that you can upcycle other fabric for this project, since these are small pieces of fabric. You can reuse fabric scraps, or towels that you don’t need (old baby towels, damaged towels, etc).
Sew a border around the edge or just inside the edge. This depends on your sewing skills or whatever you prefer.
These wipes can be used a variety of ways.
You can use them with water, witch hazel, micellar water, or whatever you would like. The great part about making your own wipes, it being able to use whatever you want on the wipes and knowing exactly what is going on your skin.
I need to make these for my daughter. She’s the one who wears the most makeup here.
I love how simple and easy to follow this is! I am especially loving how making them myself will make it more sustainable and opens up endless color and pattern combination options!
These are cute too. I don’t really use much product on my face. I probably should though.
This is such a great ideal, I don’t wear makeup, but my daughters do and I’m going to share this DYI with them. Thanks!
Your guide on making DIY reusable makeup wipes is fantastic! It’s practical and eco-friendly, and I appreciate how you highlight the benefits of using sustainable fabrics. The step-by-step instructions are clear and easy to follow, especially with the tips on fabric choices and sewing options. I also love that you mention upcycling fabric scraps, which is a great way to minimize waste. Overall, this is a great resource for anyone looking to reduce their environmental impact while customizing their beauty routine. Great job!
I love this. This was a cute idea; I just wish I had time to make them. I don’t wear makeup I just use it to clean my face. Thanks for sharing
I bought a few sets of eco-friendly makeup wipes from Muji a few years ago. But I’ll surely try your tips and make some reusable wipes from scratch for myself 😍. Thanks for sharing ❤️.
love this idea! and love that wipes can look so pretty too
Oh yyyeeeaaahhhh….kind of like having a hankie or face mask that you can wash and wear the next time, I love these. And they are very cute.
I’m definitely making some of these. This is better for the planet AND my wallet. It’s a win all the way around.
These are fully awesome. Any time you can save money, be kinder to the environment, AND still have something that does what you need it to, you’re winning.
What a great post! I love using reusable face wipes and wash cloths, It would be nice to have some in my favorite patterns.
This is such a simple easy frugal way to save money! There aren’t any makeup wipes when I grew up. I see my dashers and dashers in law spending so much on makeup and wipes and makeup remover. I will forward this to them!
These are perfect! Such a stellar idea
What a great idea! I love the concept of reducing waste while still taking care of my skin. I think I might try making my own reusable makeup wipes using some old towels I have lying around. Thanks for sharing this DIY idea!
