When you start college it is an exciting time. You are undertaking a brand new course, making new friends, and working hard towards your future career.
However, it should always be considered that this can also be extremely stressful for new students. There is a lot of new information and routines to manage, which can make the entire process very stressful.
Here, you can read about some simple life hacks that will make your time at college more bearable, helping you ace your course and get the grades you want.
- Take Care of Your Mental Health
It is commonly known that students often experience issues with their mental health, especially if they have moved across the country, or if they are living on campus.
You are not the first student to feel this way, and you won’t be the last. So, aim to take care of your mental health as much as possible on campus. There are many groups that can help students who have mental health issues and, if they are full, you can get access to online therapy for college students. All of this will help you to adapt more to college life and will keep you focused on your academics.
- Take Care of Your Physical Health
To help your mental health, you also need to look after your physical health.
This means looking into exercising as and when you can, doing yoga or some other form of physical activity. Many universities have gyms on-site or are associated with gyms in the local community. These will help you to blow off steam after a hard day in lectures, and will also help you feel physically better too.
- Use a Planner
Lectures, study meets, online seminars, writing essays, revising, socializing, being a student is extremely time-consuming and can be hard to keep up with!
It is always wise to invest in an online planner to help you keep track of what you are doing and when. This will also help you to better plan your time and will prevent (hopefully!) all-nighters the day before a deadline! If you have special needs, such as dyslexia, ADHD, or autism, that may be impacting how you manage your time, reach out to the student support team for help.
- Up Your Tech (and back it up!)
It is the horror story of every student.
You have multiple deadlines on the same day, and just before you get to submit your work, your computer breaks down and won’t turn back on.
Irrespective of the course you are doing, you need to ensure that you have at least two laptops and invest in a USB stick for emergencies. Save all of your work across all devices, USB sticks, and online portals to make sure you don’t lose any work and keep everything safe.
It may sound too much, but you will be glad you did it in the long run!
- Meal Prep on Sundays
Who said students have to live on takeout?
One simple way to improve your health (and save money) is to do all your meal prep on Sunday. This will allow you to easily cook all your meals when you return to your dorm and help you maintain a healthy diet. Aim to do it over the weekend (Sunday is preferred as it helps with freshness) and keep up this routine.
